Mr. Van der Loo received a Master’s in European Studies from the University of Ghent in 2009 and a Masters (LLM) in European Law in 2010. Over 2007-2008, he studied at the University of Florence under the Erasmus Program.

Mr. Van der Loo’s areas of research include the external policy of the European Union. His particular interest is EU trade policy in relation to its eastern neighbors and EU enlargement policy.

As a researcher at the Special Research Fund (BOF), he is drafting a doctoral thesis that examines the possibilities and limitations of EU integration for countries that are not members, using Ukraine as a case study.
