EU-Ukraine FTA: Changing conditions of trade and their impact on business

Negotiations on an Agreement on Deep Free Trade (FTA+) between Ukraine and the EU continue. These talks concern not only tariffs on goods traded but also on harmonizing Ukraine’s legislation with EU norms and rules in more than 20 areas. These talks are taking place behind closed doors and most information about them remains unpublished.

On 30 November, business and the public were given a unique opportunity by the International Centre for Policy Studies, the State Department for the Adaptation of Legislation and the European Legal Group at a roundtable entitled “Setting up a Free Trade Area between Ukraine and the EU: Changing conditions of trade and their impact on business.” The organizers are confident that the success of the negotiation process will depend on the level of understanding among Ukraine’s business circles and the degree to which the negotiating position of the Government reflects their views.

During the roundtable, participants discussed the progress of the negotiation process, opportunities and prospects that will open up for Ukrainian business, and EU requirements in various spheres of the economy.
